Quick & Easy: Powerful Golden Milk Overnight Oats

Some of you might have noticed “golden milk” being thrown around in the media, instagram and heath magazines. You may even be asking yourself, “What is golden milk?” Fear not I will break it down for you!

Golden milk is a yellow looking beverage that highlights the benefits of turmeric. Along with other powerful healthy ingredients. It has recently earned its spot light in our neck of the woods. In fact, it has been around for centuries. It originates from traditional Chinese medicine.

There are many health benefits that Golden Milk contain. Since three of the main ingredients in the recipe are full of really good things for our bodies, it makes Golden Milk loaded with antioxidants. Antioxidants are compounds that help fight cell damage and protecting our bodies from oxidative stress ( oxidative stress in an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in our bodies.)

Other health benefits include, reducing inflammation and joint pain. It may even help improve your memory and brain function. It may even help lower blood sugar levels! This is all due to the power of the spices and herbs that are in Golden Milk.

Spices are life!

Turmeric: is a flowering plant, part of the ginger family, Zingiberaceae. It’s a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that may help improve symptoms of arthritis! Turmeric has an active compound called curcumin. It is known to boost mood and reduce symptoms of depression

Cardamon: is made from the seeds of several plants. It is native to the Indian subcontinent and Indonesia. It’s taste is similar to smoked mint, almost giving it a menthol like flavor. It’s an antioxidant that may help lower blood pressure. It’s great to treat digestion problems including heartburn, intestinal spasms, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diarrhea, constipation, and loss of appetite.

Cinnamon: is used to add sweet and savory flavor to dishes, breakfast, tea, baked goods and so much more. Cinnamon may cut the risk of heart disease, lower blood sugar, and may even protect against cancer.

Step One: Making The Golden Milk

In a medium bowl, combine agave, turmeric, ginger, cardamom and cinnamon, whisk together.

Slowly whisk in boiling water to dissolve the agave. Then, whisk in oat milk and coconut milk. Taste to check if it is to your liking, add more agave in boiling water if you’d like it to be sweeter. Then mix into milk.

Step Two: Putting Together Overnight Oats

Combine oats and chia seeds in a pint canning jar and then shake (for every 3/4 cup oats add 1 cup of Golden Milk.) Pour the golden milk into the jar and shake until everything is combined.

If you prefer to make a larger batch, like how I like to do sometimes. Use a medium size bowl. Add your oats, chia seeds and golden milk.

Chill overnight or keep in fridge up to 3 days.

To serve, top with strawberries, raspberries, coconut shreds. Drizzle some blue agave for a sweeter taste.

Recipe notes: More likely then not, you will end up with extra Golden Milk with this recipe. You can either use it to make another container of overnight oats. Or you could enjoy drink it! Best part is that you can have Golden Milk either over ice or warm!
