Are you missing your favorite oat milk? You aren’t alone. I am too!! It seems almost impossible to find nowadays. With so many things running low in the grocery stores.

This recipe will help fill that void! I know it can seem scary thinking of making your own Oat Milk. Don’t think that way!

It’s very simple to make. Look at the bright side…you get to personalize it to YOUR taste buds!

Can You Make Flavored Oat Milk?

YES!! You can make flavored oat milk! It’s super creative and a fun thing to do.

Are you a fan of strawberry milk? Add a cup of strawberries to the recipe. This will give you that comfort strawberry milk vibe you love!

Really, the flavors are endless. Add any cocoa powder, vanilla extract, matcha green tea, or blueberries. Any flavor your heart desires.

Don’t want slimy Oat Milk?

Here are a few tips on how to achieve the perfect Oat Milk texture.

DON’T OVER BLEND. I know it’s easy to think if I blend the mixture more….the texture should be smoother?! It’s actually better to blend less.

DON’T USE A NUT BAG. In my experience this has actually made the oat milk more slimy. Ick!

DON’T HEAT UP. When oatmeal combined with water rises in temperature, it gets thicker. That’s what will happen if you heat up oat milk. This oat milk is better served with cold recipes. Such as smoothies, in granola, and iced coffee.

Want oat milk for hot coffee? I recommend adding coconut oil. Fat is needed to achieve that foam we all love. Add about 1 1/2 tablespoon of melted coconut oil before blending! This will help tremendously! Take note, the flavor will change slightly.

DON’T SOAK OATS OVERNIGHT. I know there are many recipes that suggest soaking oats overnight will help with the over all taste. In my exprience it has made my oat milk slimy. If this method works for you, continue to do it!

Only oat i recommend soaking before hand is steal cut oats. Soak 10-15 minutes before blending.

Instructions

Add oats, salt, water, maple syrup or dates and vanilla extract or/ and additional flavors to a high-speed blender. Blend for a 20-30 or until mixture is well combined. (Note it does not have to be completely blended, over blending can lead to slimy texture)

Next, sample for taste/sweetness. Adjust flavor/sweetness to your liking. (If adding more, blend quickly. Not more then 10 seconds.)

Pour mixture over a large mixing bowl. Cover with one of the following: a clean thin kitchen towel, fine strainer, or clean thin t-shirt. I know what many things are not accessible right now. Any of these will work! The purpose of them is to strain out the pulp from the milk.

Strain milk 2-3 times.

Store Oat Milk in sealed container. Keep refrigerated for 5-7 days.

Shake before using.

Absolutely delightful in iced coffee, dipping your favorite cookies, homemade smoothies and so much more!!
