Homemade Spaghetti Meat Sauce

Homemade Spaghetti Meat Sauce

Homemade spaghetti meat sauce is comforting, meaty, juicy and so satisfying. Serve this meat sauce over spaghetti, your favorite pasta noodles, and zucchini dishes!

There is nothing like coming home to the smell of homemade pasta sauce being made. You know that smell of freshly sautéed onions and garlic. I swear that is the base to every great recipe.

This recipe is no stranger to copious amounts of garlic and fresh tomatoes. This is one of our favorite sauces to make when are tomatoes have ripen. Growing tomatoes in our small garden has become one of our favorite things to do because we get to make different sauces our of the tomatoes! Needless to say, we get down with sauce making.

Our recipe calls for a “few” cloves of garlic. If you aren’t a fan of garlic, that is okay. We won’t judge you for it. Instead add about 2-3 cloves of garlic into this delicious homemade meat pasta sauce!

Are canned tomatoes okay for this recipe?

If fresh tomatoes aren’t available. Fear not, it’s totally okay to use canned diced tomatoes! There are tons of great brands out there that make delicious canned tomatoes. A few of our favorites are Muir Glen Organic Diced Tomatoes, Made With Organic Tomatoes, Diced, and Contadina Diced Tomatoes!

Can I Freeze My Sauce?

Allow sauce to cool down until it’s still warm to the touch but not too hot or too cold. Transfer the sauce to a freezer safe container or a sturdy freezer safe zip-top bag. Leave about an inch room at the top of the container or bag. This will allow room for the sauce to expand as it freezes.

Thaw frozen spaghetti meat sauce in the fridge over night. The next day reheat marinara sauce on stove top for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally! Use as needed!

Instructions

In a large pan, heat olive oil at medium heat. Then add ground beef, onion and garlic. Cook and stil until meat is brown and the onion and garlic are tender. (Drain excess liquid from pan if using turkey meat.)

Stir in tomatoe paste, followed by diced tomatoes. Give the ingredients a nice big stir.

Season with oregano, basil, Italian seasoning, black pepper and salt. Then pour in red wine (or water). Simmer spaghetti sauce until it reduces in size.

Follow instructions on the box for your spaghetti noodles. After about five minutes of boiling add about a cup of pasta water into your sauce.

Stir it well, and let simmer at medium heat, occasionally stirring. Until the sauce has reduced in size and has a thick like consistency.

Now you are ready to assemble your spaghetti. Add a serving of spaghetti noodles to a plate, the pour meat sauce over. Top with freshly grated parmesan cheese and fresh basil!

Dinner is Ready!

This homemade spaghetti meat sauce is also delicious on zucchini boats, zoodles, your favorite pasta, stuffed peppers and many more dishes!
