This homemade apple cider is a must make during the fall season! Year after year I make this to share with friends and family. It’s the perfect drink to make when the weather starts to turn from hot summer days to cold chilly nights.
My drink of choice during Fall is Hot Apple Cider hands down. It brings back so many memories from years past. From going to the pumpkin patch with friends. Going on long walks in the evenings looking at the Halloween decorations. It’s a warm, cozy, and nostalgic feel when I take a sip of apple cider.
What Type of Apples to Use for Homemade Apple Cider?

Great news, there is no wrong or right answer. It jut depends if you want a sweeter apple cider or a more tart taste. For a sweeter apple cider, try Golden Delicious (that’s my favorite!), Red Delicious, Gala or Fuji. If you what a more tart flavor perhaps use one of the following, Pink Lady, McIntosh or a Braeburn.
Making in an Instant Pot?
Place all in ingredients into Instant Pot or pressure cooker. Then place the lid on and cook on high pressure for 15 minutes. Allow to naturally release on its own or you can do a quick release. Mash the fruits with a masher to release the juices.
Then carefully strain the solids from the liquids using a fine mesh sieve. Discard solids and store cider in an airtight container for up to 1 week or freeze for later use.
Making in a Crock Pot?
Add in apples, oranges, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, allspice, water and apple juice into a slow cooker or Crock pot. Cook on high for 3 hours. Mash apples with a masher, then add in brown sugar. Cook an additional 1-3 hours on low.
Strain the solids from the liquids. Discard solids and store liquids in an airtight container for up to 1 week or freeze for later use!
How to Make Homemade Apple Cider in a Stock Pot?

Combine ingredients into a large stockpot. Add apples, oranges, brown sugar and spices. Then cover with apple juice and water.
Heat cider over high heat until it reaches simmer. Then reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer for about 2 hours. (apples will be completely soft)
Using a wooden spoon, mash all of the apples and oranges against the side of the stockpot. (this will help combine all the flavors.) Allow to simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
Next, you will need a fine-mesh strainer and a large bowl. Strain out all the delicious juice. Using a wooden spoon, press mushy apples and oranges against the edge of the strainer. The liquid will come out on the other side into the bowl. Discard any left-over mushy solids. Strain a second time if desired.
Serve you apple cider warm! Now it is time to enjoy your apple cider.
Take a Sip and Relax

Now, grab a blanket. Pour hot cider into a HUGE mug. Take a seat next to the fire by someone you love. Enjoy the sweet taste of Fall in a cup!! (this recipe is also good for spiked hot apple cider….just saying.)
