  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion
  • 4-6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  • 3 ounces tomato paste
  • 24-28 ounces tomatoes, diced fresh or from a can
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 3/4 tbsp Kosher salt
  • 1 cup red wine or water
  • 1 cup pasta water or 1 cup of water
  • 12 ounces spaghetti noodles to serve

  • Fresh basil Optional
  • Freshly grated parmesan cheese Optional

  • In a large pan, heat olive oil at medium heat. Then add ground beef, onion and garlic. Cook and stil until meat is brown and the onion and garlic are tender. (Drain excess liquid from pan if using turkey meat.)
  • Stir in tomatoe paste, followed by diced tomatoes. Give the ingredients a nice big stir.
  • Season with oregano, basil, Italian seasoning, black pepper and salt. Then pour in red wine (or water). Simmer spaghetti sauce until it reduces in size, occasionally stirring.
  • Follow instructions on the box for your spaghetti noodles. After about five minutes of boiling add about a cup of pasta water into your sauce.
  • Stir it well, and let simmer at medium heat, occasionally stirring. Simmer until the sauce has reduced in size and has a thick like consistency.
  • Now you are ready to assemble your spaghetti. Add a serving of spaghetti noodles to a plate, the pour meat sauce over. Top with freshly grated parmesan cheese and fresh basil!
