Sugar Cookie Christmas Trees

These super easy to make Sugar Cookie Christmas Trees are sure to get you into the holiday spirit! Three layers of sugar cookies and frosting deliciousness. They look perfect as a cookie center piece and on charcuterie boards. Every one is sure to be impressed by them.

Ingredients
  

Sugar Cookie

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup organic cane sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp milk

Frosting

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • green food coloring or any color
  • assortment of sprinkles we use circle sprinkles and star sprinkles

Instructions
 

The Sugar Cookie

  • In a medium bowl stir together flour, baking powder, and salt, then set aside.
  • In a large bowl place butter and sugar, they using a stand mixer or hand beater, beat until incorporated together. Then add in egg, vanilla and milk, and beat until combined.
  • Slow down the stand mixer or hand beater, and slowly add in the dry ingredients. Continue to mix together until the dough pulls away from the side of the bowl.
  • Divide the dough in half, and then place each half onto wax paper. Roll out the dough (with powdered sugar if desired) until it is about 1/4 inch think. Move the dough around to make sure it is not sticking. Then place some wax paper over the dough. Stack both halves of the dough on top of each other in the fridge. Place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or over night.
  • Preheat over to 375 degrees. Take preroll cookie dough out of the fridge. Cut out three different sized circles. Place circles on a cookie sheet. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until cookies just beginning to turn brown around the edges. Let the cookies rest on the pan for at least 3 minutes before removing them from the pan and trasnfering them onto a cooling rack.

The Frosting

  • Place butter in a bowl, and beat butter until creamy. Add salt and gradually add about 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, waiting until each cup is completely mixed before adding more.
  • Bring the speed down on the mixer to medium-low speed, add in heavy whipping cream, one tablespoon at a time. Add in green food coloring. When the ingredients are well incorporated, increase the speed to high and add in vanilla extract.
  • Prep the pipe bag and cut the end of the tip off. Place the tip in the bag and secure it. Then add in the frosting.

Decorating

  • Starting with the biggest circle cookie on the bottom. Pipe an even layer of frosting on the top of the cookie. Then add some sprinkles to the layer. Reapet this one more time with the next sized cookie. For the smallest cookie, do a swirl like cone motion. Place a star sprinkle on top of the tree!
  • Place the Christmas Tree Cookies in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before placing on a cookie sperad or charcuterie board!
